When Celtic signed Giorgos Giakoumakis in the summer, it was considered as a massive boost for the club. He had topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season while playing for VVV-Venlo and by quite some distance. As a result, many believed that he could prove to be the target man that the Hoops have required for a while. It is safe to say though that things have not turned out as expected for the Greek striker.

Giakoumakis has struggled with one injury problem or another since arriving at Celtic. And thus, he has not gotten a run in the first-team.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Giakoumakis has made just 8 appearances for Celtic, which have combined for a total of 276 minutes of football, scoring just once in the process of doing so.

Recently, he has been out with an injury for a while, which has been an even bigger problem for Celtic since Kyogo and Albian Ajeti have been out on the sidelines at the same time. But now, there appears to be a positive update on Giakoumakis.

Celtic finally have a Giakoumakis injury update

It looks like Giakoumakis is closing in on a return and could be back after the winter break. As reported by The Celtic Way, Ange Postecoglou recently said about the striker’s injury status:

"“Giako is really close.“He will probably train with the team in the next session.“One session will probably not be enough for him to be right for Sunday. However, he is back now to almost being available.“If we had one more game he would probably be available, but we are now looking to get him back after the break.”"

Giakoumakis returning would be a huge boost for Celtic at this point of time, especially with the number of forwards that the club are missing right now.

Postecoglou would also be hoping that the striker can remain fit and find some form moving forward. Although, it must be said that the club need to bring in another goalscorer in January, as we have seen them struggle to find the back of the net consistently when both Jota and Kyogo have been out injured at the same time.
