Phillips had made a positive contribution for Liverpool in the previous campaign when they were missing several of their star defenders.

But this season, he has found playing time hard to come by. That is understandable with the likes of Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip returning to the pitch, while Ibrahima Konate has arrived as well. Naturally, it has been tough for Phillips to get back into Jurgen Klopp’s first-team plans.

As a result, it is believed that he could be headed out of Anfield in the near future and Liverpool might very well be open to the prospect of him leaving, considering the very little impact that he has had on the first-team picture this season.

Bringing in Phillips on loan could make a lot of sense for Celtic though, who do need another centre-back, with Christopher Jullien struggling to return to the pitch from his long-term injury and not making a single appearance for the club this year.

Malang Sarr, Chelsea

Sarr was very highly-rated when he arrived at Chelsea on a free transfer. It is safe to say that it has not quite worked out for him since then though.

He spent the previous campaign on loan at FC Porto, where he played a bit of football but was not a regular in their starting XI.

He has returned to Chelsea this time around and has faced a difficult time breaking into Thomas Tuchel’s first-team which should not come as a massive surprise to anyone considering that they also have the likes of Thiago Silva, Antonio Rudiger, Andreas Christensen, Cesar Azpilicueta and Trevoh Chalobah, capable of playing in the heart of their defence. Thus, there have been rumours that Sarr could be sent out on loan again.

A left-footed centre-back, Sarr could be a solid loan signing for Celtic and provide competition to Carl Starfelt, who has raised some eyebrows with his recent displays.
