Celtic look set to make additions to their squad in the January transfer window after it has become pretty clear that Ange Postecoglou needs more options if the Hoops are to put up a sustainable title challenge against the Rangers this season. While they have done pretty well till now, their lack of squad depth has been their Achilles’ heel and a number of injuries have only exposed this issue further.

With the winter break starting, Celtic have a great chance to rectify this matter when the transfer window reopens next month. They are expected to make their signings early on as well, so that they get some time to adjust to their new surroundings and teammates.

Three players who have been heavily linked with Celtic recently are Daizen Maeda, Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. And it looks like the club might be closing in on the trio.

As reported by the Daily Record, a Celtic rumour set Twitter ablaze as the story goes that Maeda is in London for his medical, with Hatate and Ideguchi set to follow soon.

Celtic transfer target rumoured to be in London for his medical

Maeda is one of the most exciting names being linked with Celtic in recent times. The Japanese star topped the J1 League scoring charts in the 2021 season while playing for Yokohama F. Marinos.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 23 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 J1 League appearances in the recently concluded season.

If Celtic are able to sign him, it would be considered as a major coup for the club. On the other hand, Hatate has been a standout in the J1 League as well.

Most interesting is the situation of Ideguchi, who was one of the most highly-rated players in Japan a few years back but has not been able to develop as expected. But there is no question about his potential.
