With the winter break starting, Celtic must be quite content with the first half of the season. They ended their trophyless run by winning the Scottish League Cup, which was also Ange Postecoglou’s first piece of silverware as the manager of the club. And while they sit six points behind the Rangers in the Premiership table, it is not a lead that cannot be overturned, especially since the Hoops still have three league matches to play against their Glasgow rivals.

In fact, considering their lack of squad depth and the number of injuries that they have suffered through the course of the season, the team and the manager must be commended for the job that they have done.

The base for a successful season is set. Now, it is all about stepping up in the second half of the season and catching up with the Rangers in the Premiership.

It is not going to be an easy task at all, with Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s side in good form. And as a result, the month of January could prove to be vital for Celtic.

Here are three things that Celtic must do this January, as they aim to catch up with the Rangers in the Premiership title race:

Injuries have been Celtic’s biggest problem this season. When they have had the majority of their squad available, the Hoops have done tremendously well. But that has not been the case often.

While Postecoglou’s side continued to produce the results in the month of December, it was pretty clear that their performances had taken a dip, which is understandable, considering the number of first-team stars that they were missing.

Hopefully, over the course of the three week winter break, the majority of these players will get enough time to recover and are back available when Celtic face Hibernian on January 17 next.
