Celtic had only managed a draw against St Mirren in midweek in what was a huge blow for the club’s title hopes. It allowed the Rangers to extend their lead at the top to six points and it must be said that they have rediscovered their form since the arrival of Giovanni van Bronckhorst, after some early season struggles under Steven Gerrard. Thus, it is safe to say that that gap is significant considering how tight the Premiership race looks right now.

As a result, it was pretty clear that Celtic needed all three points against St Johnstone and they managed to do that despite several of their key players missing on this occasion.

A brace from Liel Abada and a rare goal from Nir Bitton were enough to hand them a 3-1 victory and they will be heading into the winter break on a high note.

There have been suggestions that Celtic will be happy with the timing of the break due to the number of players that they are missing right now. Ange Postecoglou made it clear though that the break was coming at the right time because of the fact that he did not like playing in empty stadiums. Sky Sports Scotland tweeted out the video:

Celtic head into the break on a high note but they still need to catch up with the Rangers

It is safe to say that Celtic must be happy with their recent results, although the performances have certainly taken a dip.

That is expected though when you consider the sheer number of first-team stars that they are missing right now. One can only hope that these players as well as the fans, are back when football returns after the winter break.

The upcoming January transfer window is also a big opportunity for the club and hopefully, they will make some good additions to their squad.
