Celtic have been linked with several players in recent times, as it looks like they are ready to make a splash in the upcoming January transfer window. And they will be looking to replicate their success from the summer transfer window, when they brought in players like Kyogo Furuhashi, Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers, Carl Starfelt, Joe Hart, Josip Juranovic, Liel Abada and others.

It was in stark contrast to the summer transfer window of 2020, when other than David Turnbull, they could not sign a player who could be considered as a success at Parkhead.

There was one player that they had been linked with though, who could have proved to be a tremendous signing. That man is Aaron Hickey, who ended up joining Bologna from Hearts, for a transfer fee believed to be around £1.5 million.

Hickey had spent time in the youth setup at Celtic and looks like another one that got away. He has been superb for Bologna and as reported by CalcioMercato, he is now also wanted by Manchester City and Burnley. AC Milan might have an eye on him as well.

Celtic transfer target Hickey now wanted by Manchester City

Left-back has been an area of problem for Celtic ever since Kieran Tierney left for Arsenal back in the summer of 2019.

It is safe to say that if they had managed to sign Hickey, he might have proven to be the solution there. But considering the clubs that he is being linked with now, Celtic will have a very tough time bringing him back to Parkhead. Of course, never say never in football.

At the moment, Celtic do have quite a few options at left-back in the form of Greg Taylor, Liam Scales, Boli Bolingoli and Adam Montgomery while Juranovic has filled in there as well since arriving in the summer.
