Celtic pulled a transfer masterstroke when they brought in Jota from Benfica on a season-long loan in the summer. And it is safe to say that there were a lot of doubts surrounding the move when it was made. The Portuguese winger had been one of the most highly-rated talents in the world while coming through the youth ranks and had been linked with Real Madrid at one point. But he had struggled to make an impact on the senior level.

Jota had not been able to find himself a regular spot in the Benfica playing XI and then, his loan spell at Real Valladolid did not go too well either.

Thus, when Celtic signed him, many feared that he could struggle in Scottish football. Things have gone in completely the opposite direction though, as he has proven to be an absolute standout for Ange Postecoglou’s side.

As a result, his recent injury has been a major blow for Celtic. Jota picked up a hamstring problem in the first game of December, against Hearts, and has been out since. And it looks like he will not return before the winter break. As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said:

"“Jota’s injury was quite significant, so we don’t think we will see him back out there before the break.”"

Celtic handed major Jota injury blow

It is safe to say that this news is an incredible blow for Celtic. Jota has been one of the club’s talismans this season.

Now, the results have continued to come even in his absence but it is safe to say that they do not look nearly as good without the Portuguese winger in their side.

Jota just has the ability to unlock a defence with his dribbling and has been very good infront of goal as well. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists in 18 appearances this season for Celtic. Thus, it is not hard to see why the Hoops are missing him.
