Coming out of the League Cup final, the biggest injury worry was surrounding David Turnbull, who was forced off the pitch in the first half itself with what looked like a hamstring injury and was visibly upset as a result of it.

Questions have been asked about Turnbull’s form at times this season and one has to admit that he has blown hot and cold. But there is no questioning the fact that he has been one of the most important players at Celtic since the arrival of Ange Postecoglou as manager.

He has played regularly for the Hoops this season but is now expected to miss some action. And it will be interesting to see how the club do without the midfielder.

As reported by 67 Hail Hail, while speaking on Celtic’s official YouTube channel, Postecoglou said in a media conference :

"“David Turnbull’s one was the most significant coming out of the game. He’s had a scan but we don’t have the results yet so I’m not really sure of the length of time. But he definitely misses out [vs St Mirren].”"

The most likely option that Postecoglou will go for in Turnbull’s absence is to play Nir Bitton as a defensive midfielder and push Callum McGregor a bit further up the pitch. And along with Tom Rogic, that is a midfield trio that could certainly work.

James Forrest

James Forrest has been in and out of the Celtic team for a long time now as he has struggled with a series of injury problems for over a year, extending back to the start of last season.

And with Mikey Johnston struggling with form and fitness, and Karamoko Dembele out of action since pre-season with an injury, it is safe to say that Celtic have felt Forrest’s absence, especially after Jota picked up a hamstring problem of his own at the start of December.

While speaking in the same media conference, Postecoglou revealed that Forrest won’t feature in the game against St Mirren either. And at this point of time, one can only hope that when the Celtic veteran does eventually return to the pitch, he is able to remain fit consistently.
