David Turnbull has been one of the most regular players for Celtic this season. While others around him have gone down with injuries, he had managed to remain fit and according to stats from Transfermarkt, he has already made 34 appearances in this campaign, featuring for 2824 minutes of football. But things finally caught up to him last night, as he was forced off the pitch with an hamstring injury in the Scottish League Cup final vs Hibernian.

Fortunately for Celtic, it did not up having an impact on the result of the game as they managed to win 2-1, riding a Kyogo brace.

It is safe to say that the club must be delighted to get back to trophy winning ways but the injury to Turnbull is a massive worry for them moving forward. December has been filled with injury problems for the club and several of their top players are out on the sidelines right now.

As reported by the Daily Record, Postecoglou said about the injury:

"“David suffered from the amount of games we are playing at the moment.“We are suffering because of that. We have not been able to rotate the squad a lot and that is hurting us at the moment, picking up these injuries. We will just see how he is.”"

Turnbull has been an ever present in Celtic’s starting XI this season. Now, it will be interesting to see how they cope without him in the upcoming games.

The most probable solution for Postecoglou is probably to bring in Nir Bitton as the defensive midfielder and move Callum McGregor a bit further up the pitch. And it goes without saying that the Hoops need to add more players to their squad in January.

They are being linked with two players who are capable of playing in the middle of the park in the form of Reo Hatate and Yosuke Ideguchi. It remains to be seen if they can get those deals over the line.

On the other hand, one can only hope that Turnbull is back to full fitness as soon as possible. We can only wish him the best in his recovery.
