Callum McGregor
Another man who questions have been asked about is Callum McGregor, and they have had nothing to do with his performances on the pitch.
The Celtic star has been a consistent performer for years and there is no question about his quality as a player. It is as a captain though that there were doubts.
McGregor took the armband from Scott Brown, after the former Celtic midfielder’s departure. And Broony’s arms must have been sore with lifting trophies.
Many wondered though if McGregor could have the same effect on the team that his predecessor did. After all, there is no hiding from the fact that they are very different types of leaders.
This first trophy as club captain will go a long way though when it comes silencing some of the doubters. There is still a long way to go and more trophies to compete for, but the start to his run could not have gotten to a better start, winning the first piece of silverware up for grabs.
Kyogo
Coming into the final, the major topic of discussion was surrounding the fitness status of Kyogo and with his display, he showed exactly why.
Kyogo scored two wonderful goals to guide Celtic to a 2-1 win and the Scottish League Cup trophy, also proving himself to be a man for the big occasion.
Similar to the manager, Kyogo had arrived in the summer as a bit of an unknown. He had been a standout in the J1 League but there were questions about whether he could get it done in the Scottish game. It is safe to say that there are very few questions now.
Sunday’s performance will go down in the history books as an iconic Hampden Park display for Celtic’s Japanese superstar, who is arguably the best player in Scotland right now.
