Celtic pulled off a masterstroke when they signed Cameron Carter-Vickers on a season-long loan from Tottenham Hotspur in the final hour of the summer transfer window. The club had been linked with a permanent move for the defender several times but ultimately brought him in on a temporary basis. And it is safe to say that it has worked out quite well for the Hoops as well as the player.
Carter-Vickers has gone on to become a regular in the starting XI for Celtic and one could argue that he has been the club’s best defender this season.
While Carter-Vickers has been with Tottenham Hotspur for a long time, most of his senior career has been spent out on several loan spells. It is worth mentioning though that Celtic do have an option to buy included in the loan deal.
Thus, it should not come as a massive surprise that Carter-Vickers is already being linked with a potential permanent switch when his loan spell comes to an end. And he was recently asked about the move. While speaking on talkSPORT and as reported by the Daily Record, he said:
"“I am enjoying my time up there, it’s all going well, but it’s a bit too early, it’s not fully down to me as well.“It’s obviously discussions that will have to be had at the end of the season.”"
Carter-Vickers gives update on permanent Celtic transfer
It is safe to say that Celtic made the right decision by bringing in Carter-Vickers in the summer. Defence had been a worry for the club for a long time and while it is still not the best, it is certainly much better than it was last season or in the early parts of this season.
Carter-Vickers has been a huge reason behind that and is clearly someone that Postecoglou rates very highly. He has been ever present in the team since arriving.
Thus, if the club were able to sign him on a permanent basis, it would be a major coup on their part. It remains to be seen though if they can get a deal done with Tottenham Hotspur.
