Celtic are expected to make a splash in upcoming transfer windows. And it is not just about this January. The club are believed to be closing in on moves for the likes of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate but even if they manage to bring all three in, Ange Postecoglou’s squad will still need a bit more work. Whether they make those additions next month or later in the summer remains to be seen.

One area that Celtic could do with more options in is the middle of the park. The trio of David Turnbull, Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor has done quite well while Nir Bitton has impressed recently too. But beyond that, the Hoops do not appear to have a lot of options.

James McCarthy has struggled with both form and fitness since arriving in the summer while Ismaila Soro just does not look like a big part of Postecoglou’s plans right now.

Alan Nixon has given an exciting transfer update recently, as he has revealed that Celtic are watching Barnsley’s Callum Styles closely. The journalist tweeted out:

Celtic appear to have their eyes on Styles

Still just 21 years of age, Styles was a standout for Barnsley last season as the club finished fifth in the Championship table.

And while things have not gone Barnsley’s way this season, there is no question about Styles’ talent or potential.

Styles mostly plays in the left side of midfield and is very comfortable with the ball at his feet. He is an excellent dribbler and great at carrying the ball up the pitch. He also has the ability to score from distance from time to time.

And it is safe to say that he could improve a lot moving forward. Thus, a switch to Celtic could be a solid move for the player and he could be a good fit in Postecoglou’s system.
