Kyogo Furuhashi’s fitness was the big storyline coming into the Scottish League Cup final between Celtic and Hibernian, and he showed exactly why on the big day. The Japanese star scored a brace as the Hoops completed a comeback 2-1 win to lift the first trophy of the season, bringing an end to their drought, having not won one last season. It was also Ange Postecoglou’s first piece of silverware for the Hoops.

Hibernian had scored the first goal of the game but Celtic did not take long to reply through Kyogo. And then the Japanese star added to his tally 20 minutes later.

Hibernian did not have a reply and the Hoops held on to their lead till the end of the game to get their hands on the trophy.

One can only hope that this is just the beginning for the Hoops under Postecoglou. They have done tremendously till now but they must also have one eye on the future and more trophies.

Kyogo had picked up an injury against Real Betis earlier in December, putting his fitness status for this game in doubt.

Coming into the game, Postecoglou held his cards close to his chest as he so often has but every Celtic fan must have breathed a sigh of relief when they saw the name of Kyogo on the team-sheet.

And then he delivered and then some. The Japanese superstar scored two absolutely brilliant goals to hand Celtic the Scottish League Cup trophy, proving his worth to Postecoglou’s side once again.

He, along with Jota, has been the talisman for Celtic this season and now, he has shown that he can deliver on the big stage. Kyogo is an absolute superstar. What a signing!
