Celtic’s biggest worry ahead of the League Cup final against Hibernian is the number of injuries that the club have at this point of time. Several of the club’s first-team stars are out of action at the moment and this is far from ideal considering the fact that the first trophy of the season will be up for grabs this Sunday. We have seen Ange Postecoglou scrambling for options in recent games.

Kyogo, Jota, James Forrest, Mikey Johnston, Giorgos Giakoumakis and a few others are dealing with fitness problems right now. And while there is no hope of some of them featuring in the final, some of them are believed to be in a race against time to get fit.

One of them appears to be back in training in the form of Johnston. He missed the midweek game against Ross County but has been videoed training with the rest of the players.

Celtic released footage from their training session at Lennoxtown on their official Twitter account:

Johnston videoed training with Celtic teammates ahead of League Cup final

Not too long ago, Johnston was considered as one of the brightest young prospects at the club but it is safe to say that injuries have stalled his development.

He has spent the past couple of seasons dealing with a number of fitness issues which have seen him in and out of the team and spend the majority of his time on the sidelines. That is far from ideal for any player, especially one of his age.

One of Johnston’s biggest qualities was that he could have an effect on a game through both goals and assists but he has not done that this season till now. Even then, him being available would be a huge boost for Celtic who do not have many options available right now. That is the reason why Postecoglou had Josip Juranovic, Anthony Ralston, Adam Montgomery and Liam Scales, all in the starting XI against Ross County.
