The upcoming game between Celtic and Hibernian is very important for both sides, with the League Cup up for grabs at Hampden Park. It is also an opportunity for Ange Postecoglou to win his first piece of silverware in Scottish football while the Hoops can end their trophy drought, having not won one last season. On the other hand, Hibs last won this competition back in 2006/07.
We are all aware of Celtic’s problems leading up to the game. Injuries have been their Achilles’ Heel this season and they have quite a few of them at the moment. In fact, there has not been a game in December till now that one of their players has not been forced off the pitch with an injury.
Several top Celtic players like Kyogo, Jota, James Forrest and a few others are currently on the sidelines for the Hoops. But Hibernian are not in the best shape either.
After a bright start to the campaign, their form has faded away and they just recently parted ways with Jack Ross as manager. Thus, there has been a lot of speculation about who will be in the Hibernian dugout during the League Cup final.
Hibernian manager for League Cup final vs Celtic revealed
As reported by BBC, David Gray will lead Hibernian in Sunday’s League Cup final against Celtic as talks continue with Shaun Maloney over the managerial vacancy. He was told on Wednesday before training that he would take charge at Hampden Park.
Gray has been the caretaker manager of the side since Ross’ departure and it will be interesting to see how he does in the big game.
Being the underdogs could very well work in Hibernian’s favour. As they showed against the Rangers in the semi-final, there is a lot of quality in their squad and they can get a result when on their game.
