Celtic will meet Bodo/Glimt in the knockout round play-off of the UEFA Conference League, after being drawn against the Norwegian side. And it is safe to say that this is expected to be a tight affair. Ange Postecoglou’s side gave a great account of themselves in the Europa League while being in the same group with Bayer Leverkusen, Real Betis and Ferencvaros. But their opponents have been impressive as well.

Bodo/Glimt recently won the Norwegian league title and their Europa Conference League run has been solid as well, and has included a 6-1 win against Jose Mourinho’s AS Roma.

One player who has been a standout for the club for a long time is Patrick Berg. In fact, he has been linked with a move to Celtic in the past but it never ended up materialising. But the Hoops might have a golden chance to make that happen in the near future.

As reported by the Daily Record, Berg recently said about his Bodo/Glimt future:

"“This is Glimt’s opportunity to get a financially good sale for me because I only have a year left of my contract. I think the club might want to sell me now. That’s the way it is with contracts and football.“I believe I have developed every single day at Glimt.“At the moment I am still under contract and I can’t comment about specific transfers. My agent and I will sit down with Glimt next week and see what will be best for everyone.”"

Celtic have a great chance to sign Berg from Bodo/Glimt

Berg has been a brilliant player for Bodo/Glimt but has only one year left on his current deal with the Norwegian club. And judging from his comments, it does feel like he might be looking for a transfer move in the future.

If that turns out to be the case, Celtic must definitely see if a move to Parkhead is on the table because someone like Berg would be a solid addition to Postecoglou’s side.

He has already proven himself against some big teams in Europe as well as domestically and is a member of Norway’s national team as well.

And midfield is an area that the Hoops do need to strengthen in soon. Thus, this could be the perfect opportunity for them to make a move for Berg. They have the chance to sign a great player while also weakening their Europa Conference League opponents at the same time.
