January promises to be an exciting time for Celtic, although the club need to make sure that they navigate through the month of December successfully first. Squad depth has always been a major worry for Ange Postecoglou and we have seen them pick up a number of injuries since the start of the month. The turn of the year will provide them a chance to rectify this issue though as the transfer window reopens.

Celtic have been linked with a number of players from the J1 League in recent times and it is not hard to see why. Postecoglou spent years managing in Japan before coming to Parkhead and the success of Kyogo’s move must have given the club a lot of encouragement as well.

The J1 League campaign came to an end recently and thus, January could prove to be the perfect time to sign players from there.

And as reported by Sky Sports, Celtic are close to agreeing a deal with Kawasaki Frontale for Reo Hatate. Personal terms are not expected to be an issue and the move could be concluded shortly.

Celtic appear to be closing in on Hatate move

Hatate has been a standout player in Japan in recent times and played a big part in Kawasaki Frontale’s back-to-back J1 League winning campaigns.

At 24 years of age, it is believed that he is now ready to make the jump to Europe and Celtic could provide him the opportunity to do just that.

The most impressive thing about Hatate is his incredible versatility as he has proven himself to be a quality player in multiple positions. While he is a natural midfielder, he can play with equal ease on the wings or at left-back. Thus, it is not hard to see why he could be a great addition to a Celtic side that is lacking in options all over the pitch.
