Celtic have been linked with a move for Daizen Maeda for over a month now and the rumours show no signs of going away. It is not hard to see why the Hoops might be interested in the Yokohama F. Marinos star, who topped the J1 League scoring charts in 2021, along with Leandro Damiao, despite not being an out and out striker. Now, the big question is, can Ange Postecoglou’s side get a deal over the line.

There have been suggestions that Celtic are indeed closing in on a move. With the number of injuries that the club have at the moment, they could do with reinforcements as soon as possible.

And Yokohama F. Marinos might have handed Celtic a major boost in their chase to bring Maeda to Parkhead in January.

As reported by Hochi, Yokohama F. Marinos are looking to sign Takuma Nishimura from Vegalta Sendai. And it is believed that they want the forward as Maeda’s replacement.

Yokohama F. Marinos hand Celtic major boost in Maeda transfer race

Maeda could be the perfect fit for this Celtic side. He has incredible pace, stamina, movement in the box, an eye for goal and the ability to finish with both his feet. He has also played in Europe in the past.

On top of everything else, Maeda has already played under Postecoglou during their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos. In fact, it was the manager who brought him to the club and thus, they will already be very familiar with each other.

As a result, if Celtic can pull a move for Maeda off, it would be considered as a major boost on the part of the club. And the transfer is looking likely at this point of time. Nothing is set in stone though and it remains to be seen how things turn out over the coming weeks.
