Giakoumakis arrived at Celtic with a lot of expectations over the summer and understandably so. He had topped the Eredivisie scoring charts last season and by quite some distance.

And as a result, many expected him to be equally as prolific at Parkhead as well, with there being no lack of chances in front of goal in most matches for the Hoops.

Unfortunately for Giakoumakis though, he has struggled badly with fitness. The Greek striker has not been available for any considerable length of time on a consistent basis.

And even over the past several weeks, he has been out of action, as it remains to be seen when he does eventually return.

One can only hope though that he is back in time for the League Cup final against Hibernian. Otherwise, Ange Postecoglou’s side might have to go into that game without a striker. And it is safe to say that that is not ideal.

Change the system and play without a striker

In the modern game, it is not unheard of to play without a striker. In fact, several teams have done it successfully in recent times. Can Celtic look to repeat that trick without many options available to them right now?

Even on the wings they lack options and thus, do not have a lot of scope to play one of the wingers up top. James Forrest and Jota are both out of action at the moment with respective injuries as well.

Thus, changing the system and going into games without a recognised striker might be an option that they need to consider over the coming weeks.

Of course, it is not ideal but at the moment, that might be their best option going forward. To soar up the numbers in midfield and hope that the likes of Mikey Johnston and Liel Abada can carry the goalscoring burden up top.
