Celtic have always been expected to make additions to their squad in the upcoming January transfer window. While the Hoops have done very well with the options that they have, it is clear that Ange Postecoglou needs a deeper squad if they are to put up a sustainable title change. We have already seen the Hoops struggle with injuries and even at the moment, there are quite a few first-team stars on the sidelines.

Celtic are believed to be eyeing several players from the J1 League and that is understandable considering the fact that Postecoglou spent several years managing in Japan and has great knowledge as a result.

We have already seen him pull off a masterstroke in the summer by signing Kyogo from Vissel Kobe. He has turned out to be an absolute superstar from the Hoops. And fans will be hoping that they can repeat the transfer trick in January.

It appears that they might have taken a major step in their January transfer plans. As reported by Yahoo Japan, an agreement has been reached for a fee over €1 million (about 128 million Yen) for the transfer of Yosuke Ideguchi from Gamba Osaka.

Celtic have reportedly agreed Ideguchi transfer fee

Ideguchi was one of the brightest prospects in Japanese football a few years back. So much so that he had broken into the national team set up at a very young age and even earned himself a move to Leeds United.

Things did not quite go to plan from there though. Ideguchi had a tough time in Europe and did not make a single appearance for Leeds United. Instead, he spent loan spells in Germany and Spain but was not very successful there either.

Since then, Ideguchi has returned to Japan and found his feet again at Gamba Osaka. And now, it looks like he might soon get a second chance to prove himself in Europe.
