Celtic have not had the best of record recently, when it comes to bringing through players from their academy into the first-team picture. We have also seen several highly-rated youngsters leave in order to join clubs around Europe. And that is something that the club must be hoping to change as soon as possible, as bringing through youth players is a huge part of what the Hoops have been known for over the years.

There have been some signs in recent times though that things might be changing. Anthony Ralston has become a regular in the starting XI this season, while Stephen Welsh, Adam Montgomery and Mikey Johnston all seem to be in the first-team frame as well, and Dane Murray put in some excellent performances early on in the campaign.

There’s one youngster though who has caught a lot of eyeballs in recent times. And that is Tobi Oluwayemi.

The 18-year-old goalkeeper was signed from Tottenham Hotspur a couple of years back and is already being tipped to be a first-team star in the future. While speaking on Celtic’s official YouTube channel and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager recently said about Oluwayemi:

"“Stevie Woods, our goalkeeping coach, rates him very highly.“We’ve had him up training with the team and he’s shown some good qualities.“With all of these guys, we try and include them as much as we can and give them that experience.”"

It is safe to say that Oluwayemi is very highly-rated at Celtic, with many even believing that he can be the first-choice goalkeeper at the club in the future.

Of course, that is something that only time can tell but for now, the signs are very promising for the youngster. There have been some rumours as well that Joe Hart has taken him under his wing.

There have been some recent suggestions that Oluwayemi could make his first senior appearance for Celtic in the near future. If that is indeed in Postecoglou’s plans then the upcoming game against Real Betis might be a great opportunity to give him some first-team experience.
