Celtic have been linked with a move for Daizen Maeda for over a month now and recent rumours have suggested that a move might be getting closer. And that is certainly exciting news for the fans. The Hoops have been expected to have a big January transfer window for a while now and signing the in-form Japanese star could be a wonderful start to that, as he can be the perfect fit in Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Maeda topped the scoring charts in the 2021 J1 League season along with Leandro Damiao despite not being an out-and-out striker.

His numbers this season were brilliant. According to stats from Transfermarkt, Maeda scored 23 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 J1 League appearances.

And his recent comments might have hinted at a move away from Yokohama F. Marinos after this season, amidst heavy links with Celtic. As reported by The Scottish Sun, Maeda said:

"“I’ve never hidden my ambition to play in Europe. When I tried before in Portugal, Covid ruined it for me.“This season has changed everything for me. Goals and a call-up for my country. For me, it’s just the start.”"

Maeda has been heavily linked with a move to Celtic in recent times

The 2021 J1 League campaign just came to an end and as a result, this might be the perfect time on the part of Celtic to make moves for players who are currently playing their club football in Japan.

It is not hard to understand why Celtic might try to bring Maeda to Glasgow. He possesses incredible pace, stamina, ability to finish with both his feet, movement in the box and has experience of playing in Europe in the past as well.

On top of everything else, he has already played under the management of Ange Postecoglou in the past during their time together at Yokohama F. Marinos.

In fact, it was Postecoglou who brought him to the club and thus, he will already be very aware of the manager’s style of football. Thus, if the opportunity is there, Celtic must definitely make a move for Maeda happen.
