Celtic need to make additions in the January transfer window. That’s now a hard fact as the club need to resolve what’s quickly becoming a difficult situation. Several players have gone down with injury in recent weeks and they do not appear to have like-for-like replacements readily available at this moment. One such area is up front.

The Celtic forward line definitely has goals in it. Jota has been brilliant recently and Kyogo has stepped up on most occasions. And there are other goalscorers all the way through the side. Even in defence, the likes of Anthony Ralston, Cameron Carter-Vickers and now Liam Scales have been getting on the score sheet.

There are a couple of problems brewing though. At times, the Hoops are creating plenty of chances but not finishing enough of them. Although it ended up as a comfortable 3-goal win against Dundee United, it could have easily been more.

Secondly, as we have seen this past week, injuries are affecting the team. We wait for news regarding when James Forrest could be back after being subbed off at half time against Dundee United. Plus, Jota being injured recently while Giorgos Giakoumakis continues to be out all highlight a gap that needs filling.

Celtic must look for a goal scoring forward in January

Ange Postecoglou will have to use his existing squad to get through the December fixtures, including the League Cup final against Hibernian. We’re expected to see a lot more of Mikey Johnston and Liel Abada and everyone will have their fingers crossed that Kyogo remains injury free. Albian Ajeti has had opportunities but has not been able to impress.

Those are all the options that Celtic appear to have at the moment though going forward. Thus, the need for more additions is clear.

Rumours of a potential deal for J1 League’s top scorer Daizen Maeda are cause for optimism. There were question marks previously about where he might fit into the team, but it’s becoming clearer that the squad needs more depth to allow rotation of players, cover for injuries and to strengthen the bench so Postecoglou has more options during a match.
