Another name heavily linked with Celtic in recent months has been that of Hibernian’s young starlet Josh Doig, who set the Scottish Premiership alight last term with his all-action displays and fearless approach.

Last year’s Young Player of the Year seems an ideal solution to Celtic’s defensive shortcomings at left-back. His attacking style, experience of the domestic league and incredible potential might just convince the club to make a move.

The Scottish U21 international did however sign a contract extension with Hibernian last month, which runs until the summer of 2026. This could drive his transfer value up from early season expectations.

Reo Hatate, Celtic’s next Japanese star?

This January could be another opportunity to bring in players from the J1 League. Kyogo’s scintillating start to life at Celtic must serve as huge encouragement to sign more players from Japan in the future, and therefore the Parkhead faithful would surely be receptive to another signing from the Far East.

The versatile Japanese star can play in a number of positions, but has mostly played at left-back in recent times. He also knows what it takes to be a winner; as his Kawasaki Frontale side have already won this season’s J1 League title with several matches to spare, and could be on course for an impressive domestic double, which can be wrapped up before the January transfer window commences.

Furthermore, Hatate is available on a free transfer after 31st January, when his current deal with Kawasaki Frontale expires. Although it is believed that Celtic are pushing to bring him in sooner.

The winter break presents a great opportunity for Celtic to strengthen their squad during the January transfer window, when a left-back must surely be top of their wishlist. Whilst Greg Taylor and Adam Montgomery offer reasonable options, the club ideally need to strengthen in this position with the Conference League coming up and a potential domestic treble up for grabs as well.
