Celtic pulled off a transfer masterstroke in the summer when they signed Kyogo Furuhashi from Vissel Kobe. The Japanese star has come in and made a huge impact, and it is safe to say that he has played a big part in the Hoops’ solid start to the campaign. Now, Ange Postecoglou’s side could be looking to pull off another masterstroke by signing Yokohama F. Marinos’ Daizen Maeda.

Maeda topped the scoring charts in the recently concluded J1 League campaign along with Leandro Damiao. According to stats from Transfermarkt, the Yokohama F. Marinos star scored 23 goals and provided 5 assists in 36 J1 League appearances this season.

Thus, it is not hard to see why Celtic might be interested in Maeda. They have been linked with him for over a month and now, it looks like a move might be getting close. And the transfer fee involved might surprise a few fans.

As reported by Yahoo Japan (via Daily Record), a deal is in the final stages and a transfer fee around 200 million Yen (£1.5 million) is set for the summer window with an initial loan agreement from January.

Celtic could sign Maeda for a bargain transfer fee

If the move does end up eventually happening and the transfer fee is around that, then it has the potential to be a massive bargain on the part of Celtic.

Maeda just topped the J1 League scoring charts despite not being an out-and-out striker. And his combination of pace, ability to finish with both feet, stamina, versatility and prior European experience make him almost the perfect signing for Celtic. On top of that, he has played under Postecoglou in the past as well.

Of course, it remains to be seen what the future holds and if the move does end up happening. But the signs are looking very promising for Celtic.
