Celtic might have gotten three points against Hearts but they were handed the same number of injuries as well. Jota, Anthony Ralston and Stephen Welsh were all forced off the pitch injured and it goes without saying that this is a massive worry for Ange Postecoglou. The Hoops did not have a lot of squad depth in the first place and with these fresh fitness blows, the next few weeks could be rough for them.

December was always going to be a tough month for Celtic with games coming thick and fast, and now, it has just gotten a lot tougher.

At the start of the season, not many would have expected Ralston to become a first-team regular for Celtic but that is exactly what has happened. And his performances have been brilliant to say the least. Even against Hearts, he was the one who set up Kyogo’s winner.

Postecoglou’s comments about the injury were not very promising though. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, the manager said:

"“Tony’s probably the one that’s most concerning certainly because for him to come off I’d assume it’s something significant but we don’t know.”"

Postecoglou would say in his Sky Sports interview post-match:

"“Tony sort of felt something on his ankle which is disappointing because he has been outstanding for us.”"

Celtic handed massive Ralston injury blow

It remains to be seen when Ralston can return to the pitch. But it is safe to say that this injury is a massive blow for Celtic and could have a huge impact on their upcoming games.

The Hoops do have a solid right-back in the form of Josip Juranovic, who can immediately slot in there. Left-back is where the problems could lie though.

Postecoglou has played Juranovic there regularly despite him being a natural right-back. And now with Ralston out injured, and the Croatian expected to move position, they will need to bring in someone there.

Adam Montgomery, Boli Bolingoli and Liam Scales are all capable of playing there, with Greg Taylor out with an injury at the moment. It remains to be seen who will get the nod moving forward.
