Celtic are not coming off of a great season, having finished 25 points behind Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side in 2020/21. As a result, the Hoops lost their chance to create history by winning their tenth straight Scottish league title. What is done is done though. It resulted in Neil Lennon leaving in the middle of the previous campaign but now, the club does appear to have a long-term solution in the dugout in the form of Ange Postecoglou.

Postecoglou has done a tremendous job since coming in and has already become a fan favourite. There is no doubt that he was not handed the best of hands when coming in but deserves a lot of credit for where Celtic stand right now.

Celtic are second in the Premiership table, four points behind the Rangers, and are in the Scottish League Cup final. On the other hand, there has been a change in the Ibrox dugout as well, with Gerrard leaving for Aston Villa and Giovanni van Bronckhorst coming in.

And heading into the Aston Villa vs Leicester City game, Gerrard has admitted that he continued to learn from Brendan Rodgers’ Celtic side even when he was at Ibrox. As reported by the Daily Record, he said:

"“It would have been very naive from my point of view not to try and learn as much as I can and what I could from Brendan, and I continued to do it even when we never worked together because obviously I came up against him in Scotland and I have seen how well he has done in the Premier League, which is certainly no surprise to me.”"

Gerrard makes admission about Rodgers’ Celtic

Gerrard did not win a lot of silverware during his time with the Rangers. In fact, he only won one trophy. But that was the one that they had brought in to deliver.

Of course, Gerrard and Rodgers did not manage together in Scotland for a long time. The Northern Irish manager was in charge of Liverpool though when Gerrard played for the Merseyside club and thus, they do go way back.

Incidentally, both of their departures were similar in nature as both Gerrard and Rodgers left in the middle of the season in order to join Premier League clubs.
