Jota has been one of Celtic’s standout performers this season if not the standout performer. There were a lot of doubts about the Portuguese winger when the club signed him in the summer from Benfica on a season-long loan but it is safe to say that there are no doubts now. The most important question surrounding him now is whether the Hoops can sign him on a permanent basis.

Fortunately, they do have an option to buy included in the loan deal believed to be around £6.5 million. Such a transfer fee would immediately make him one of the most expensive signings in the history of Celtic but considering how good he has been, it is almost a no brainer.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 8 goals and provided 7 assists in 17 appearances for Celtic this season. And he seems to be getting better with every passing game.

While there are still questions about whether the club can sign him, it looks like they might already have further plans surrounding Jota as well. Portuguese insider Pedro Almeida tweeted out:

Celtic might have big plans for Jota in the future

Now, the timeline of these plans seem to be unclear. Would Celtic sign Jota just to immediately find him a new club similar to the Jack Hendry situation at KV Oostende last summer? Or would they eventually look for a €30 million transfer fee for the Portuguese winger?

Whatever maybe the case, the first thing that they need to do is sign Jota on a permanent basis. He has been nothing short of magnificent for Celtic.

After that, we will see how things play out. It would be a very controversial move on the part of Celtic though if they signed Jota just to let him leave for a €30 million transfer fee soon afterwards.
