Celtic’s Cameron Carter-Vickers option to buy fee revealed

Celtic pulled off two brilliant season-long loan deals in the summer in the form of Jota and Cameron Carter-Vickers. Both have come in and become regular fixtures in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI. Now the big question is though whether the Hoops can sign them on a permanent basis in the future. The option to buy believed to be included in the Tottenham Hotspur defender’s deal might make it very difficult though.

A lot of rumours have suggested that Jota’s option to buy fee is around £6.5 million but a not has been said regarding Carter-Vickers’ one till now. And it appears that it might be much higher than one would have guessed.

As reported by the Daily Record, Celtic have been told it will take a transfer fee around £10 million if they want to activate the option to sign Carter-Vickers on a permanent deal from Tottenham Hotspur. The fee would rise to double figures with two separate add-ons.

In the summer, when there were talks about a potential permanent deal, rumours had suggested that Carter-Vickers could be available for a transfer fee around £5 million or £6 million. Thus, it is safe to say that the revelation is a quite surprising.

If Celtic decided to shell out that transfer fee, it would make Carter-Vickers the most expensive signing in the history of the club. Now, there is no doubt that the Tottenham Hotspur loanee has been very good for Postecoglou’s side.

But it is hard to see the Hoops shelling out that kind of a figure for him. Now, whether they would try to negotiate or not is a different matter.

It must be pointed out that Carter-Vickers was not a major part of the first-team picture at Tottenham Hotspur before arriving at Celtic and has spent several spells out on loan over the years.
