We’ve seen Celtic develop as a potent attacking team in recent months, with Jota and Kyogo consistently spearheading a front line that has scored against domestic and European defences alike. However, Ange Postecoglou’s preferred selection when it comes to right-wing is still unclear despite the season quickly heading towards the winter break. Will James Forrest or Liel Abada get the regular starting spot?
This is unsurprising in many respects. Forrest has picked up a number of injuries since last season which have resulted in him missing extended periods of action. It has not been long since he has made his return to the pitch.
On the other hand, Liel Abada’s early-season influence has faded away a little recently, although his impressive stats till now suggest a solid start to life at Parkhead.
But given Forrest’s return to full fitness, who will the manager select more regularly at right-wing moving forward?
Liel Abada
A case could be made for both the players. Although Abada has only registered a solitary goal since the end of September, the strike itself was as important as they come, scoring what turned out to be the winner in a thrilling team performance against Ferencvaros in the Europa League group stage.
And Europe seems to be a particular favourite of the Israeli winger. Abada scored in both Champions League and Europa League qualifying rounds, as well as his goal away in Hungary against Ferencvaros.
According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 7 goals and provided 5 assists in 25 appearances for Celtic till now.
However, his end product occasionally leaves a bit to be desired, and it must be said that he has been outshined by Jota on the opposite flank over the past few months. Although, comparing him to the talented Portuguese winger in current form may be a little harsh.
It was not too long ago that Abada turned 20 years of age and with the start that he has made, he is expected to be a big player for the club for years to come.
