Kenny Dalglish makes big claim about Celtic summer signing

It is safe to say that this summer transfer window was one of the most important in Celtic’s recent history. The club had gone through a disappointing 2020/21 campaign, finishing trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership title race. On top of that, several first-team regulars were on their way out of Parkhead as well while many positions in the squad needed strengthening.

Overall, the club ended up making twelve new signings over the summer, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. And it is safe to say, that all things considered, things have worked out quite well when it comes to the new signings.

Joe Hart was one of the club’s new signings in the summer. And it is pretty clear that he has done a tremendous job till now, nailing down a spot in Ange Postecoglou’s starting XI.

And Kenny Dalglish believes that the Scottish Premiership title race might eventually end up coming down to the two goalkeepers of the two Glasgow giants. As reported by 67 Hail Hail, he wrote in his The Sunday Post column [28/11 print edition, Post Match supplement page 12]:

"“New Rangers manager, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, had his goalkeeper, Allan McGregor, to thank for securing the 2-0 win he was looking for. The Gers shot-stopper’s double save near the end of the game was outstanding.“And so were Joe Hart’s in Leverkusen. It was breathtaking. It hammers home the importance of having a good goalkeeper. That’s just part of the reason why I feel that the SPFL title race will go down to the wire. It’s going to be very, very close.“I think Celtic will fancy their chances, and maybe feel that they have already had their stickiest patch of the season, and can go on a long, undefeated run. The rest of Rangers’ campaign is a wee bit more of a guessing game.“Indeed, it could well be that the destination of the title will come down to Mcgregor or Hart. It’s going to be very interesting.”"

Hart has been superb since arriving at Celtic

One of the most important positions that the club needed to strengthen in in the summer was goalkeeper after a season of no continuity between the posts last time around, when Conor Hazard, Scott Bain and Vasilis Barkas all got runs in the first-team but none of them were able to make the position their own.

A lot of doubts were raised when Celtic made the move to bring Hart to Parkhead from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer. And perhaps rightfully so, since he had not been a starter for a club for years.

But the English goalkeeper has been superb since coming in and has proven that he can still be a starting goalkeeper. And after quite some time, Celtic have stability between the posts, which is very important for any club with title aspirations.
