Celtic must be disappointed in the manner in which the game against Bayer Leverkusen turned out. For a long time, it had looked like the Glasgow giants were heading for a historic win away in Germany. But the Bundesliga side scored late twice in order to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat while Ange Postecoglou’s side had to nothing to show for their solid performance coming out of the game.

Overall, there were a lot of positives to take from the night. After all, the first fixture between the two sides, which was played at Parkhead, had been a 4-0 win for Bayer Leverkusen. This just goes on to show the progress that the Hoops have made in a relatively short period of time.

One of the big worries coming out of the game though will be the fitness situation of Nir Bitton, who had to come off in the second half with an injury when Celtic were leading 2-1, and which might have possibly been the turning point of the match.

Postecoglou has revealed that the situation around Bitton is uncertain at the moment. As reported by the Glasgow Times, he said:

"“I was a bit disappointed to see Nir come off.“In terms of how he is going to be, I’m not really sure. We will assess him, but he has been pretty influential for us and did well to help set up our second goal in Germany.”"

Bitton could possibly miss Celtic’s upcoming game against Aberdeen

Bitton had not played a lot of football this season until Tom Rogic picked up an injury a few weeks earlier. Since then, he has come into the starting XI and done quite well in the role that he has been playing.

As a result, if he does end up missing action moving forward, it could be a major worry for Celtic, who are already light on options in the middle of the park.

If that turns out to be the case though, James McCarthy appears to be the most likely solution for Postecoglou at this point of time, although the summer signing has struggled with both form and fitness since arriving at Parkhead.
