Aaron Hickey is a player who Celtic have been linked with for a long time. He was part of the club’s youth ranks at one point of time but would go on join Hearts, where he would break into senior football. And it is safe to say that he has enjoyed a rapid rise. After impressing at the Edinburgh club, he has gone on to join Bologna in the Serie A where he has impressed as well and is already being linked with top Italian sides.

It is hard to believe that Hickey is still just 19 years of age and will turn 20 in the middle of next year. Yet, he is already a regular for Bologna, who currently sit at 11th in the Serie A.

For Celtic, left-back has been an area of worry ever since Kieran Tierney left in order to join Arsenal back in the summer of 2019. Several players have featured there for the Hoops but nobody has been quite able to nail down the spot.

Thus, it is not a massive surprise that the Hickey rumours have surfaced several times already. And the player himself has admitted that he has contemplated potentially staying in Glasgow again. As reported by the Daily Record, he told The Guardian:

"“Sometimes I think it would be good to stay in Glasgow all the time again but when I get back out here, it’s fine. I miss my family and friends but I enjoy it out here, living by myself.”"

Hickey could be a solid signing for Celtic but looks unlikely

There were some doubts about a move for Hickey earlier, when the rumours had first emerged when he was still with Hearts. It is safe to say that there are very few doubts now and most Celtic fans would probably be happy if the club made a move for him.

But at this point of time, a move back to Celtic feels unlikely. Hickey is already being rumoured with potential moves to clubs like Napoli and AC Milan.

Thus, it is safe to say that this might be another case of one that got away for Celtic.
