Celtic have had their fair share of injury problems this season. And the fact that they do not have the deepest squad means that these have been magnified. The injuries of Kyogo and Callum McGregor earlier in the season are great examples of that. The Hoops struggled in their absence and it was only after the duo returned to the pitch from their respective injuries that they could get back into form once again.

Recently, the likes of Tom Rogic and Carl Starfelt have been out as well. Both of them have been first-team regulars for Celtic under the management of Ange Postecoglou and as a result, it is safe to say that the club have missed them.

And there was one more injury worry that the Hoops picked up in midweek against Bayer Leverkusen, that could turn out to be a huge blow for them, when they face Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership.

That is the one that Nir Bitton suffered against the Bundesliga giants, as he had to be substituted off in the second half, in a vital point of the game.

Bitton has not played a lot of football this season. But following the injury to Rogic, he had become a regular in Postecoglou’s starting XI.

Celtic do not have an out-and-out replacement for Rogic, meaning McGregor pushed further up the pitch and Bitton was placed as the defensive midfielder. And while he was not spectacular, the club veteran was certainly playing his role to good effect.

It is hard not to feel that his substitution against Bayer Leverkusen ended up having a huge impact on the result of the game against Bayer Leverkusen and the Hoops could possibly have held on if he was on the pitch the full 90 minutes.

If he does end up missing the Aberdeen game, it would be a massive worry and let’s see if Rogic ends up gaining fitness by that point.
