Celtic have one of the most important games of their season coming up when they face Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League. A lot could be riding on this game for Ange Postecoglou’s side. If they lose on the day and Real Betis are able to beat Ferencvaros, then there will be no chance of them finishing above third in their group. Fortunately, the Hoops will still have European football to play even if that happens, in the Europa Conference League.

But the focus for now should be on getting a result against Bayer Leverkusen. Of course, that is easier said than done.

Bayer Leverkusen are easily one of the best teams in the Bundesliga right now and the reverse fixture at Parkhead ended up 4-0 in the German side’s favour. That just shows the magnitude of the task that Celtic face away in Germany.

The Bundesliga giants have had their fair share of injury problems in recent times though. And they provided an update on several players on their official website ahead of the game against Celtic:

"With Andrey Lunev and Niklas Lomb in goal, nine outfield players in three teams of three took part in intense matches on a reduced pitch. They included Timothy Fosu-Mensah and Karim Bellarabi. Strikers Patrik Schick and Lucas Alario were working on their comebacks nearby. Charles Aranguiz was also out on the pitch on Monday."

Celtic’s focus has to be on themselves at the moment. And going into the game, they will know that they will have to put in one of their best European performances in recent times to get a result out of the game against Bayer Leverkusen.

Nothing is impossible in football. But it is certainly going to be tough. Let’s see how things unfold when the two teams meet.

Celtic’s recent form will be cause for some optimism though, with Postecoglou’s side having won eight of their previous nine game across all competitions while drawing the remaining game. Hopefully they can keep that streak going. The game against Bayer Leverkusen will certainly be one of the toughest tests in that regard.
