Many fans would have been expecting Celtic to face the Rangers in the Scottish League Cup final, considering the form that Hibernian had been in in recent times. But the game went completely the opposite way as Jack Ross’ side walked out of Hampden Park with a comfortable 3-1 victory through a hattrick from Martin Boyle and will now face Ange Postecoglou’s side next month for the first trophy of the season.

That promises to be a great game and provides Celtic a big chance to get the Postecoglou era to a brilliant start by winning the first trophy up for grabs. But as Hibernian showed through this performance, they can never be taken lightly, even when they are not in great form.

For the Rangers, their poor run in Cup competitions continues. And it is safe to say that Giovanni van Bronckhorst has his work cut out for him, with Celtic picking up some serious momentum in recent weeks.

Chris Sutton reacted in brilliant fashion to the result. He tweeted out:

Things are looking up for Celtic but they must remain focussed

Things have certainly been looking up for Celtic in recent times. They managed to get a 1-0 victory against St Johnstone in the other semi-final, thanks to a goal from James Forrest, to book their place in the Scottish League Cup final as well.

That win makes it eight from their previous nine games across all competitions. And if they can keep performing and improving like this moving forward, the fans must be excited about what is to come by the end of the season.

Celtic must remain focussed though. We are still in the early parts of the season and there is a long way to go. Next they have a tough away trip to Germany to take on Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.
