Bring in a starting left-back

Since arriving in the summer, Josip Juranovic has mostly featured as a left-back for Celtic. That is interesting considering the fact that he was never known for playing there before joining the Hoops.

Now, to be honest, the Croatian international has done a good job there. And the great form of Anthony Ralston in the other full-back position means that it has worked.

But one cannot help but feel that playing at left-back is restricting Juranovic going forward. The attacking part of his game is one of his biggest strengths and Celtic need to make the most use of that.

Unfortunately, they do not have a first-choice left-back at the club right now and that has been a worry for them for a while. They have not been able to replace Kieran Tierney, who departed in the summer of 2019 to join Arsenal.

They have had several left-backs since then but none of them have quite managed to nail down their spot in the starting XI. And Celtic certainly need someone in their squad who can do that, so that Juranovic can return to his natural position and show what he is capable of doing there.

Another centre-back

Now Celtic do have some decent options in the heart of defence, with Christopher Jullien yet to make his return to action. But they have a few huge worries as well.

Firstly, Jullien has been out of action for a long time now. In fact, he has not been in action for almost a year and not featured in 2021 till now. Thus, one has to wonder how he will look when he does make his return.

Secondly, Cameron Carter-Vickers is only on loan till the end of the season and it remains to be seen if the club will end up signing him on a permanent basis ultimately.

Thus, Celtic could certainly do with another centre-back in their squad moving forward.
