Ange Postecoglou sends clear Celtic title message

After a long time, it feels like there is some excitement around Celtic. And it is Ange Postecoglou who deserves the biggest credit for bringing that excitement back to Parkhead. The Hoops booked their place in the Scottish League Cup final, by beating St Johnstone 1-0, with James Forrest’s goal proving to be the difference. And now, they have a Hampden Park date to look forward to in December.

This is huge, especially coming after the disappointing 2020/21 campaign that saw the Hoops lose their chance of winning a historic 10IAR by losing the Premiership title race to the Rangers by 25 points. And they disappointed in every other competition as well, finishing the season trophyless.

Now though, they have booked their place in their first final under the management of Postecoglou. He has done an incredible job ever since arriving in the summer, especially considering the fact that he was not dealt the best cards to begin with.

It looks like he very much has his sights on his first trophy as a Celtic manager now, having crossed the hurdle to the final. As reported by The Scotsman, Postecoglou said:

"“I’m determined to come back and win the trophy.“It’s not about me personally.“I understood when I took this role that it’s the measure. Yes, I have a vision of how I want to play football and build a team.“But ultimately I knew the measure would be how quickly I can bring success to Celtic.“I’m not going to get two or three years to do that. I came here to try and get this club back to where it should be. Now, I have an opportunity to do that in the final and that has to be our aim.”"

Postecoglou looks to be aiming for his first trophy as a Celtic manager already

Postecoglou is no stranger to winning titles, having enjoyed tremendous success in both Japan and Australia before arriving at Celtic. But he still has not won a trophy in European football.

Thus, the League Cup final will provide him with a great opportunity to do that. And while we are still quite some way away from that game, it is safe to say that most Celtic fans will already be marking their calendars.

It is either Hibernian or the Rangers, who the club will meet at Hampden Park in December. And it remains to be seen what happens in the other semi-final.
