The appointment of Ange Postecoglou as Celtic manager in the summer is starting to look like one of the best decisions that the club have made in a long time. He has come in and quickly steadied the ship. And while this was always expected to be a transitional season for the Hoops, it does look like they could possibly challenge the Rangers for the Scottish Premiership title.

Of course, the start was shaky and there are still serious worries when it comes to squad depth. But overall, Celtic certainly look in a good spot at the moment and if they can make the right additions in January, who knows what might happen by the end of the campaign.

When the Postecoglou rumours had first broken out though after a failed attempt to bring Eddie Howe to Parkhead, most fans were not excited. At the end of the day, the manager had little experience in Europe at that point of time and it was an outside of the box choice from Celtic.

Ian Bankier has now revealed that Peter Lawwell was instrumental in the identification and appointment of Postecoglou. While speaking in a video posted on Celtic’s official website and as reported by 67 Hail Hail, the club chairman said:

"“I have to pay tribute to Peter [Lawwell], to his contribution to the club over so many years. It’s been absolutely massive. He retired with great dignity at the end of last year, he was instrumental in the identification and appointment of Ange.“And he did everything properly and professionally for us. [He] has put his heart and soul into what’s best for Celtic.”"

Lawwell played a big role in brining Postecoglou to Celtic

This is a bit of a surprising claim considering the fact that Lawwell’s run at the club was coming to an end, while Dom McKay was the Chief Executive of the club, when the Postecoglou appointment was made.

Also, considering how different it was from the club’s recent appointments or even managerial targets, most fans would have felt that it was completely a McKay decision.

Whatever maybe the case, it is certainly looking like the right decision on the part of the club as the performances and results continue to improve with every passing week.
