Celtic are heading into one of the most important games of their season till now, as they will take on St Johnstone in the Scottish League Cup semi-final. And while Ange Postecoglou’s team have momentum on their side, having won seven of their previous eight games across all competitions, Callum Davidson’s side are the defending champions as they won a Cup double last season. It is safe to say that they can never be counted out.

Celtic must be confident heading into the game though, as they look like the in-form team in Scotland at the moment and even beat St Johnstone 2-0 in October.

The Hoops appear to have been handed a major blow going into the game though, as Stephen Welsh looks like a major injury worry.

As reported by Football Scotland, Welsh appeared to pick up a knock and limped off late on, as the Scotland under-21s lost to their Belgian counterparts. It goes without saying that this could turn out to be a huge blow for Celtic.

Celtic have been handed a huge Welsh injury worry before League Cup semi-final

This is a double worry for Celtic. On one hand, Welsh’s availability for the game appears to be in doubt now. On the other hand, Carl Starfelt has been out injured for a few weeks now and it is unclear whether he will be fit enough to feature.

With Christopher Jullien still out of action as well, Postecoglou could very possibly find himself scrambling for centre-back options before the League Cup semi-final against St Johnstone.

If both Welsh and Starfelt end up missing the game, then starting Nir Bitton at centre-back could be a possible solution. But then, one will have to worry about the midfield and who will start alongside Callum McGregor and David Turnbull, with Tom Rogic out with an injury as well.
