Mohamed Elyounoussi enjoyed a pretty good spell at Celtic, all things considered. He was on loan at the club for a couple of seasons and showed a lot of potential. Many fans had even hoped that the Hoops would sign him on a permanent basis but that did not turn out to be the case and he now finds himself back at Southampton, where he is doing quite well at the moment.

Elyounoussi first arrived at Celtic on loan in the 2019/20 season, after not being able to either score or assist over the course of his first campaign with Southampton. And while he looked very good when he played, injuries limited his participation for the Hoops during that season.

He would return on loan the following season though and while the club struggled on the pitch, he was one of the few bright spots for Celtic during the course of the 2020/21 campaign.

And it appears that Elyounoussi is pretty satisfied with the experience that he had with Celtic. As reported by the Daily Echo, the Southampton player said:

"“In general, it was a really good experience to go to Celtic. A huge club, amazing fans and I tried to find myself back to where I was before I came to Southampton.“I have grown as a player and as a human being, being there over the two years.“I have learned a lot about myself, had family and friends around me being very supportive and helpful. It has been a good experience for me.”"

Elyounoussi pays beautiful tribute to his time with Celtic

Elyounoussi was a pretty good player for Celtic although it does feel like he did not get as many opportunities that he deserved, with him having to sit on the bench at times due to a change in system.

Whatever maybe the case, it is great to see that he enjoyed his time at Celtic and feels that it helped him grow as a player and a person.

He is getting his chance at Southampton this season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he has scored 4 goals and provided 2 assists in 10 appearances for the club across all competitions this season.

It is hard not to wonder what a player like Elyounoussi could have done, playing in Ange Postecoglou’s style of football.
