Celtic and Rangers face battle to sign Newcastle United player

Celtic have strengthened their squad quite a bit over the past summer transfer window, bringing in twelve players overall, ten on a permanent basis and two on loan. But it is clear that they still do not have the deepest roster of players and will need to make more additions over the coming transfer windows, as Ange Postecoglou aims to take them back to the top of Scottish football once again.

It is important to bring in players who will make an immediate impact on the first-team. But on the other hand, it is also important for the club to bring in players who will be future Celtic stars.

And it looks like the club have their eyes on Newcastle United youngster, Joe White, whose current contract is set to run out in the summer of 2022. Thus, he will be free to talk with clubs from outside of England from January onwards.

As reported by the Chronicle Live, both Celtic and Rangers are interested in White. But clubs from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Eredivisie are keeping an eye on the highly-rated youngster as well.

Celtic and the Rangers could have to face a battle for the highly-rated Newcastle United player, who appears to have a lot of interest in his signature, if he was to leave next summer.

Interestingly, the 19-year-old is yet to make his debut for the Magpies’ senior side but has shined for Newcastle United’s youth sides over the years, playing either as a central midfielder or an attacking midfielder.

Celtic’s recent history of signing youngsters has been hit and miss. It was not too long ago that they signed Jeremie Frimpong, who has gone on to become an absolute star and is currently at Bayer Leverkusen. But on the other hand, the likes of Liam Shaw and Osaze Urhoghide, who were signed this summer, have not even made their competitive debuts for the club till now.
