As you would expect, Celtic fans have reacted to the news that Steven Gerrard has left the Rangers and completed a move to Aston Villa to become their new manager. And with Ange Postecoglou’s side in terrific form, it is safe to say that the title race is wide open at the moment.

The move did happen quite quickly all things considered. As first, most would have taken the rumours with a pinch of salt. But things seriously picked up pace over the past 48 hours or so, and a move is already over the line.

While the Rangers do have a four point lead at the top, they have not looked convincing in recent games. And with just 13 league games played, they will have to find a new manager to steer the ship. On the other hand, Celtic appear to be getting better as the season progresses and are expected to strengthen further in January.

Aston Villa confirmed the news of Gerrard’s appointment on Twitter:

Celtic fans reacted to the news, as one would expect them to do:

Celtic have a huge chance following Gerrard’s Rangers exit to join Aston Villa

Celtic were already a team in form, having won seven of their previous eight games and drawing the other one. And they appear to be getting better, as the season progresses and the team becomes more accustomed to Postecoglou’s style of football.

Now, with Gerrard leaving the Rangers, there is a genuine opportunity for them to cut down the four point gap even further and potentially return to the top of the Scottish Premiership once again.

At the end of the day, the Rangers will now have to find a new manager whose strengths complement those of the squad that Gerrard assembled at Ibrox over the past several years. And it will be interesting to see how that team reacts to the manager’s exit in the early part of the campaign.
