Celtic: 3 problems Postecoglou needs to solve to win the title
The long-time left-back problem
Left-back has been an area of worry for Celtic for a long-time. Since Kieran Tierney left the club to join Arsenal in the summer of 2019, the Hoops have not been able to quite replace him.
Players like Boli Bolingoli, Greg Taylor, Jonny Hayes, Diego Laxalt, Adam Montgomery and others have gotten their runs at left-back. But nobody has been able to nail down their spot in the team.
In recent times, Ange Postecoglou has decided to go with Josip Juranovic, a natural right-back, at left-back. And to be honest, he has done a good job there despite playing out of position.
But many feel that his abilities going forward are not utilised well when playing at left-back and he’d be much better at right-back. As result, it does not feel like Celtic have found their long-term solution there yet.
The midfield dilemma
We are quite a bit into the season, but still, nobody quite knows the best combination for Celtic in midfield.
The trio of Tom Rogic, David Turnbull and Callum McGregor was working quite well before the Australian picked up an injury. And even then, there are big questions about that partnership as well and how it will work in the big games.
Also, Celtic appear to be lacking a regular defensive midfielder at the moment. They have quite a few options in the form of Nir Bitton, Ismaila Soro and James McCarthy but none of them have been very impressive this season and made the position their own.
Thus, January might be a good time for Celtic to make another addition in midfield. That would allow more options to open up for Postecoglou and make this squad more flexible than it is at the moment.
These, are the three problems that the Celtic manager needs to solve if he is to guide this team to the Premiership title this season.
