Former Celtic star, Chris Sutton, made a hilarious claim on social media as it looks like Steven Gerrard is heading towards the Rangers exit door in order to join Aston Villa. And if the move was to happen, it would certainly make things even more interesting in the Scottish Premiership than they already were, with Ange Postecoglou’s side having all the momentum right now.

While initially some taken the rumours with a pinch of salt, they have only gained pace over the past 24 hours and now, does feel like a move will happen.

Last month, Gerrard was linked with a potential move to Newcastle United. But back then, he had ruled out a Rangers exit immediately.

As reported by Glasgow Times, when asked about a potential move to Newcastle United back then, Gerrard said:

"“Do I look happy? Do I look settled?“Don’t ask me silly questions then.”"

Things appear to have changed quite a bit over the few weeks since then though. And Sutton tweeted out something today which could very well be in reference to those previous comments:

Celtic have a big opportunity as Gerrard looks headed for the Rangers exit

While Celtic must remain focused on their own games moving forward, one cannot deny that they might have a big opportunity to close down the gap between themselves and the Rangers over the coming weeks.

If Gerrard does indeed end up leaving the club then Rangers will need to find a replacement as soon as possible for the manager. And it remains to be seen what kind of an effect such a change could end up having on their season.

Celtic have all the momentum on their side at the moment anyway, after having won seven of their previous eight games across all competitions. And now, this could possibly hand them another boost as they look to return to the top of Scottish football.
