Celtic manager reacts to Steven Gerrard Rangers exit rumours

The Scottish Premiership title race between Celtic and the Rangers might be about to take a turn that not many could have predicted. Rumours have gained pace over the past 24 hours that Steven Gerrard is headed for the Ibrox exit in order to become the next Aston Villa manager. Now, Ange Postecoglou has given his reaction to the rumours.

Celtic have made tremendous progress over the past month or so, climbing up from sixth to second in the Premiership table and the difference now between the two Glasgow sides is four points.

And the Rangers could possibly be handed another huge blow, as it looks like Gerrard could possibly depart the club in order to become the Aston Villa manager.

Postecoglou’s entire focus appears to be on what he has at hand at Parkhead though. As reported by The Scotsman, when asked about the uncertainty surrounding Gerrard’s Rangers future, the Celtic manager said:

"“They’re the kind of distractions I avoid, to be honest. I’ve been really laser-focused on here, and I’ll continue to be.“I’m just making everyone really aware that we can’t get distracted by anything or anyone else. We’re trying to build something here, and when you’re trying to build something, and be successful, you can’t afford to be looking over your fence at what other people are doing.”"

Postecoglou seems to be completely focused on the job at hand at Celtic

This is certainly the right approach to have at this point of time. Celtic finished 25 points behind the Rangers in the Scottish Premiership last season and have a mountain to climb just to cut down that lead.

Thus, Postecoglou will know that his side have a long way to go. The Gerrard move is not over the line yet and there is no point thinking about it right now.

And even if the Rangers ended up needing to make a change in the managerial hot seat, it is hard to judge what kind of an effect that would have. The last two sides to win the Champions League, Bayern Munich and Chelsea, changed their managers in the middle of the season after difficult starts to their campaigns.

Thus, for Celtic, the best thing to do is be focused on doing what they have been doing in recent times and keeping making progress.
