How much Celtic had to pay for Neil Lennon’s departure revealed

Celtic had entered the 2020/21 campaign with the aim of making history by winning a 10th straight Scottish Premiership title. But as we all know, things did not go as most fans would have expected or envisioned. The Hoops would finish the season trophyless and 25 points behind the Rangers in the league table.

Naturally, questions were raised about Neil Lennon and he would depart the club in the middle of the campaign, with John Kennedy taking the role of the caretaker manager till the end of the season.

Lennon was on a 12-month rolling contract with the club but it looks like they still had to pay a significant termination fee for his departure. As tweeted out by Swiss Ramble, they had to shell out £0.6 million for the manager’s departure.

This would go in line with a previous report from The Scottish Sun, according to which Celtic had to pay £630,000 in contract termination payments in the year.

Lennon stepped down as Celtic manager in the middle of last season

Lennon had a very successful second stint at Celtic up until the 2020/21 campaign. And considering the importance of the season, it is safe to say that his time as the club’s manager might end up being defined by the last few months more than anything else.

At this point of time, Celtic appear to have a long-term manager on their hands in the form of Ange Postecoglou.

He has come in and quickly become a fan favourite, as the side are enjoying a good run of form at the moment and playing some beautiful along the way as well.

It is safe to say that the future is looking bright for Celtic right now although as we all know, things can change very quickly in football. Thus, the aim must to continue improving moving forward and ultimately, get back to the top of Scottish football.
