When Manchester United signed the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Jadon Sancho and Raphael Varane in the summer, they were expected to challenge for the Premier League title this season after finishing second the last time around. On the other hand, not many would have expected a former Celtic manager to join the Red Devils in the middle of the campaign. But this might be a case of expecting the unexpected.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s future at Manchester United is very much up in the air at the moment as the Red Devils sit at sixth in the Premier League table. And it appears that the club have turned towards former Celtic manager, Brendan Rodgers.

Rodgers has done a terrific job at Leicester City over the past few seasons and has been heavily linked with the Old Trafford job in recent times, in case the club decided to part ways with Solskjaer.

And as reported by Caught Offside, Rodgers has verbally agreed to take over as Manchester United manager. But the timing of the move still remains a problem.

Former Celtic manager verbally agrees to join Manchester United

It is not hard to see why Manchester United would want someone like Rodgers at the club. He has done a brilliant job at Leicester City, winning an FA Cup and a Community Shield with them and turning them into a side that has competed for the Champions League spots in both of his full seasons with the club.

His stint at Celtic before that was brilliant as well and it was Rodgers who turned the Hoops into a Treble winning machine, which would go on to completely dominate Scottish football for four straight years.

It is believed though that Rodgers wants to join the Red Devils at the end of the season while Manchester United are pushing for a move now. But as Celtic fans will know very well, the Northern Irish manager did leave a club in the middle of a campaign not too long ago.
