Jota has been an absolute revelation ever since arriving at Celtic. When Ange Postecoglou’s side signed him on a season-long loan, there were a lot of doubts about the Portuguese winger. He had been one of the most highly-rated talents in world football while coming through the youth ranks and had even been linked with a move to Real Madrid a couple of years ago. But at the senior level, he had struggled.

Jota could not establish himself in the Benfica first-team and did not have a great loan spell at Real Valladolid either. It is safe to say that he is making his mark at Celtic though.

According to stats from Transfermarkt, Jota has scored 4 goals and provided 5 assists in 13 appearances across all competitions for Celtic till now. And he has already nailed down his spot in Postecoglou’s starting XI.

And it appears that his family are happy with how things are turning out for him in Glasgow. As reported by Celtic’s official website, speaking about his family, the Portuguese star said:

"“They are really happy with everything going on.“They say to me I have grown up with this philosophy that it’s easy to get there, but it’s difficult to maintain the level. Only the greatest can do that.“I’m just looking to keep on improving, remain humble and achieve really good things.“This couldn’t happen without the support of the team. If I can help with my goals and assists and playing my football, that’s what I’m looking for.”"

Celtic must try to sign Jota on a permanent basis

The good news is that Celtic have an option to buy included in the loan deal for Jota. And the transfer fee that they will need to shell out to sign him on a permanent basis is believed to be around £6.5 million.

If he continues to perform like this it is almost a no-brainer that the Hoops must do everything that they can in order to bring him to Parkhead on a permanent basis. And ultimately, it might all come down to what Jota wants to do.

In that case, his recent comments provide the club with hope. This is the first time that he is playing regular first-team football anywhere and is doing quite well. Now, it remains to be seen if he can continue performing like this and if Celtic do end up trying to sign him on a permanent basis.
