Celtic: 3 Premiership stars the club should try to sign
By StevieMac
The transformation of the Celtic squad is well underway and we are already starting to see some great results from Ange Postecoglou’s side. But there is still a lot more work to be done. And some Premiership stars could prove to be great signings for the club.
There has been a significant change in the squad already. For example, Callum McGregor was the only player who started in Thursday’s UEFA Europa League game against Ferencvaros and last season’s Champions League qualifier against the same club.
That’s quite some turnaround in players and it is expected to continue, with more arrivals expected in the January transfer window. A number of players have already been linked with a move to Celtic in recent months.
While most of those rumours have surrounded players currently in foreign leagues, there are quite a few players in the Premiership, who could add a lot to the Celtic squad. Signing players who are already familiar with the Scottish domestic league could actually be a wise move on the part of the Hoops.
3 Premiership stars who Celtic should try to sign
Celtic need to strengthen their squad further and here are three Scottish Premiership stars that they should try to sign:
Jamie McGrath, St Mirren
The Celtic midfield needs strengthening. We’ve already seen a dip in performance when Callum McGregor was unavailable, Ismaila Soro has not looked in form for a while and James McCarthy has not quite found his feet yet, struggling with both form and fitness.
Someone like Jamie McGrath could be a great fit in this squad. The 25-year-old Republic of Ireland midfielder plays for St Mirren and has already been linked with Celtic.
He is a strong central midfielder who adds energy and drive to the middle of the park. He is also good in possession and passes the ball well.
He was absolutely brilliant last season. According to stats from Transfermarkt, he scored 17 goals and provided 6 assists in 46 appearances for the club. Celtic could certainly do with that kind of effectiveness in the middle of the park.
He recently picked up an injury, while playing against the Rangers, but is expected to be back sooner than first feared.
McGrath has made his mark on the international stage recently as well, having made several appearances for the Republic of Ireland national team on the back of his good run of form.
